mechanical and morphological properties of short nylon fiber reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber composites
Authors
abstract
acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (nbr) composites are prepared from waste nylon 66 short fiber using a two-roll mill mixer. the effects of fiber content and bonding agent on the mechanical and morphological properties of the composites are studied. the curing characteristics of the composites have been studied by using cure rheometer. the cure and scorch time of the composites decrease while cure rate is increased when short fiber content is increased. the mechanical properties of the composites show improvement in both longitudinal and transverse directions with increase in short fiber content. the adhesion between the fiber and rubber is enhanced by using a dry bonding system consisting of resorcinol, xamethylenetetramine and hydrated silica (hrh). the swelling behavior of the composites in n,n-dimethylformamide is tested to find the effect of bonding agent on adhesion strength of the matrix and fibers. fracture surface morphology of composites is studied by scanning electron microscopy. the restriction to swelling is higher for composites containing bonding agent, especially, in the longitudinal direction. the morphology of the fracture surface shows less fiber pull out when the bonding agent is introduced.

studies on properties of short fiber reinforced natural rubber composites
natural rubber/fiber composites were prepared in a laboratory mixer using new and waste short nylon fiber by a one-step mixing process. fiber loading and bonding agent effects on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. the cure characteristics of composites were investigated by using rheometer. cure and scorching times of the composites decreased while maxim...
full textImproved curing conditions and mechanical/chemical properties of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber Composites Reinforced with Carbon Based Nanofillers
Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with contents ranging from 1 to 10 phr (part per hundred parts of rubber) were selected and then characterized to reinforce acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) based composites. Fabrication of nanocomposites were done by a novel procedure and structural analysis along with variety of mechanical and chemical tests, according to th...
full textGloves against mineral oils and mechanical hazards: composites of carboxylated acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber latex
Resistance to permeation of noxious chemical substances should be accompanied by resistance to mechanical factors because the glove material may be torn, cut or punctured in the workplace. This study reports on glove materials, protecting against mineral oils and mechanical hazards, made of carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (XNBR) latex. The obtained materials were characterized by a ...
full textMECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND ANALYSIS OF RANDOMLY DISTRIBUTED SHORT BANANA FIBER REINFORCED EPOXY COMPOSITES
Short banana fiber reinforced composites have been prepared in laboratory to determine mechanical properties. It has been observed that as soon as the percentage of the banana fiber increases slightly there is a tremendous increase in ultimate tensile strength, % of strain and young modulus of elasticity. Reinforcement of banana fibers in epoxy resin increases stiffness and decreases damping pr...
full textMechanical properties of woven glass fiber-reinforced composites.
The aim of this investigation was to measure the flexural and compressive strengths and the corresponding moduli of cylindrical composite specimens reinforced with woven glass fiber. Test specimens were made by light-curing urethane dimethacrylate oligomer with woven glass fiber of 0.18-mm standard thickness. Tests were conducted using four reinforcement methods and two specimen diameters. Flex...
